School based Play Therapy

Creating a safe space in the School setting.
With my Play Therapy Tool Kit I am able to provide this service in Schools. For many children, accessing Play Therapy in school provides an added element of containment; I set up in the same room at the same time each week. Using creative arts based options ( paint, clay, music, movement, small world, sand tray, role play, therapeutic story telling, ) each week the child explores their world through metaphor at their own pace in a familiar space they are comfortable in. Attendance is one 40-minute session each week for an agreed period (understood through assessment) with regular reviews to support progress and a safe, planned ending. Parent involvement is required and regular meetings are recommended to ensure opportunities to discuss concerns and share ways to support the child. A report with reccomendations going forward will also be provided for the schools benefit.
Why Play Therapy?
As a teacher, it may be that you recognise children in your school who would benefit from 1:1 or Group Play Therapy sessions to help them understand and manage their thoughts and feelings.
Parent/carer interviews and teacher referrals provide the thorough assessment needed to support the decisions around the child; a treatment plan is devised and the work begins, continuous assessment supports this work so that therapeutic objectives can be measured.
Feel free to contact me to discuss how we might be able to support the children in your school.
